Published course are HTML based and so are generally accessible to screen readers such as JAWS. Gomo published courses have been tested with JAWS and the reading experience has been acceptable.

Users can execute most gomo functions using a keyboard. Exceptions include certain interactions detailed below.

Courses can also be switched into an ‘Accessible’ mode which is more suitable for learners with a visual impairment. In accessible mode, animations on screen transitions are removed.

Some gomo asset types are less suited to screen reader use. These include:

• Carousel
• Image Wall
• Drag and Drop
• Likert-scale

However, Gomo has a powerful feature called ‘display conditions’, which can change what is displayed on the screen when accessible mode has been enabled. Using this, learning designers can create visually simpler versions of screen interactions which are displayed when in accessible mode and richer ones, including the above assets, when not.

Visual elements on a Gomo page are ordered into blocks and columns. The tabbing order follows that sequence, starting with the items in the top navigation bar, the working though the blocks from top to bottom, moving though each item in the columns within that block from left to right and then finally moving through the bottom navigation bar items and screen navigation forwards/back buttons.

All images can have ‘alt’ text assigned which can be read by screen readers.

The Gomo audio and videos player assets have a transcript feature to support learners with hearing impairments. The video player asset also supports closed captioning in VTT format, enabling timed captions to be displayed on top of video content.

Accessibility features in Gomo do not apply to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
